Logie Primary School Fundraiser

A message from the Logie Primary School Parent Council:

Dear Finderne Community,

Warm greetings from the Logie Primary School Parent Council! We hope you all are well during these challenging times. 

As some of you know, all of our regular fundraisers for Logie Primary School have been cancelled this year due to social distancing restrictions. The school counts on these fundraisers to support any extra activities it plans for the children. 

As an alternative fundraiser, the Logie Primary Parent Council is excited to be planning a cookbook this autumn. We’ve all cooked so much on our own during lockdown, it would be wonderful to share your favourite recipe with others. We will be using recipe ideas from the school cafe, school families and you, our Finderne community, to raise needed funds for the school. This will be created and printed in time for Christmas and available for sale throughout the community.

We are asking for each Finderne community family to contribute one favourite recipe to be included in the cookbook. One per household, please. If you have already received this letter as part of the school community, don’t worry – we don’t need two recipes from you, one will be fine.  You can find a template for your recipe to be typed into here. We’ve left a helpful example in the template. Do erase it as you change it to your recipe. You must select a recipe that will fit onto one page. If you have any problems at all with this template, please copy your recipe directly into an email message to Aileen at apistone@gmail.com. When replying with your recipe you will need to indicate which category it falls into:

Starters & Snacks
Main Course
Sides, Soups & Salads
Desserts

You may indicate this in your reply email or on the recipe itself, where it currently says Desserts. It would be great if you could include any interesting info about you or your family or the recipe under Submitted By. If the recipe has certain dietary restrictions, be sure to check the correct box on the form. If you feel a different box is needed do let us know. If the recipe is not originally yours, please credit where it comes from at the bottom of the recipe. 

Please may we have your tried and tested recipes in by Wednesday 07 October to Aileen at apistone@gmail.com. This will give us time to come back to you if we have too many similar recipes and need an alternative. Funding Win for FDT

Finderne Development Trust (FDT) has today announced that it has received funding from the Scottish Land Fund to undertake a feasibility study to assess the potential of developing community led affordable housing in Rafford at Brockloch.

This is the first step of a wider community development project which aims to meet a number of the Finderne communities’ long-term needs including the demand for a community energy scheme, the enhancement of environmental sustainability and increased opportunities for recreational activity to enhance life in the rural community.

The concept, which utilises the sports field at Rafford Village Hall to generate renewable ‘park power’ energy to supply the hall and homes was the brainchild of FDT Director Brian Higgs.

Brian explained, “Seeing the land at Brockloch adjacent to the village hall and sports field just seemed to flag up an opportunity to link three benefits for the community. If a community led affordable housing scheme is feasible, it will be good to have the houses designed with low Carbon heating. The sports field might be a perfect place to install a ground source heat capture system. If it is, and we dig up the field, why not replace it with a modern all-weather sports surface? It’s very unusual to have three complementary factors sitting next to each other so getting experts in to see what’s feasible was an obvious step to take.”

Affordable housing was identified as key in growing a vibrant, sustainable and balanced community during FDT’s community consultation in 2018.

Pery Zakeri, Development Manager, commented, “Community led affordable housing has been a catalyst for the regeneration of many rural communities. We want to retain and attract younger people and families to live and work in Finderne – this can only be achieved by offering them somewhere affordable to live. As we strive to put environmental sustainability at the core of our regeneration activities and create new social opportunities which look after the health of all members of our community, this project could provide a fantastic first solution and have great impact.”

The Trust have engaged the services of Community Housing Scotland to undertake the feasibility works. Community Housing Scotland help rural communities better understand and meet the needs for additional affordable housing and have worked with over 200 rural community groups across Scotland to date.

Joe Gribben, Community Led Housing Officer at Community Housing Scotland said, “The shortage of appropriate affordable housing is a major problem across rural communities, and we are delighted to be working with FDT on this exciting community led project.  We believe it will make a significant contribution to the community’s ability to attract and retain the economically and socially active families needed to support local services and businesses.”

FDT Director Brian Higgs went on to say, “It is particularly poignant that we start this feasibility study so soon after the sad loss of our friend and colleague Chris Piper. Chris was our first chairperson and he lived just across the road from the Brockloch site. He was immensely enthusiastic about this project concept and anything we achieve will be a lasting tribute to his memory”.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Chris Piper, FDT Chairperson

It is with the deepest sadness that we must advise of the untimely death of our friend and colleague Chris Piper. Chris passed away peacefully on Saturday 8th August, surrounded by his family, after battling an illness for the past twelve months.

Chris was one of the founding members of the Finderne Development Trust, and our first Chairperson. Whilst he was a relative newcomer to Finderne, having lived for many years in Forres, his commitment and passion for the Trust stemmed from his love of the area. His enthusiasm to see the success of the Trust was second to none, and with his leadership we have created a Strategic Plan to develop Finderne for the members of its community. His lasting legacy will be the delivery of that plan.

We send our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers to Chris’s wife Jenny, his sons Rory, Jonathan and Jamie and his other family and friends. Chris will be missed, but not forgotten.
