Supporting the rural economy is a key priority for the FDT. Which includes helping local businesses with the recruitment and training of employees. Initially the FDT operated within the framework of the modern apprenticeship scheme and were successful in placing two apprentices within local businesses.

Following discussions with several local business in early 2024 it was clear that additional support was required beyond the existing apprenticeship scheme which is still available. FDT have devised two new ways to apply for employment support.
